Network Engineer

As a 'Network Engineer' you will join  team of Micky Mattens, of the VUBnet department. The team defines various technology procedures and standards for the VUBnet colleagues, follows the latest developments in network technologies and applies them to the needs of the VUB.

At the VUB you have the chance to touch a wide range of technologies, from a highly scalable low latency high speed LAN network, full security stack to multiple ISP internet infrastructure and a hybrid cloud environment.

Some examples of projects implemented:

• Highly redundant core network infrastructure based on Extreme Networks SPBM, spread across multiple sites
• Robust wifi infrastructure
• Active/Active Palo Alto firewall cluster
• Redundant internet
• IPv6 footprint
• Modern classrooms built on multicast network technologies

You reinforce the 'Technology' part of this team, which is characterized by its enthusiasm and eagerness to learn. These colleagues are the 'specialists' within the VUBnet team and each has their own technology expertise.

Your responsabilities:

• You help determine the further outlines regarding the network infrastructure of our university,
• Master certain pillars of technologies- > be a central point of knowledge for the rest of the team
• Guard the security and uptime of the VUB network.
• Assist in implementing cross team projects
• Design, test and implement new technologies
• Provide 3rd level support for certain technologies

For this position, VUB Main Campus - Brussel | Vrije Universiteit Brussel will become your home base, in combination with working from home after your work- induction.

You will also occasionally work on the Campus in Jette.
