Offer Description

You will conduct research within the research group P.PUL (Planning for People, Urbanity and Landscape). This research group focuses simultaneously on issues concerning sociopolitical challenges on the one hand and ecology, environment and climate on the other, with a strong emphasis on space. More specifically, you will work on a doctoral research project on large-scale housing projects that, at the time of their conception, aspired to a distinctly combined social and ecological agenda. The PhD involves both historical research into the original social context, motivations and design solutions, and research into the (re)development of these projects, combining different methods (including archival, ethnographic and design research). The focus lies on Belgian and Western European case studies. Within these outlines, you will further delineate the specific focus and cases of this research together with the supervisors at the start of the research.

You will also support the Urban and Spatial Planning program of the Faculty of Architecture in collaboration with your colleagues. You function in a team and assignments are managed by the program director.

Your duties may include:

  • Assisting in the organization of the annual study tour;
  • The organization of the annual workshop week;
  • The coordination of the master's theses;
  • Assistance in the teaching of the master's program (supervision of master's theses, research seminar, ad hoc assistance within various course units, etc.).

In addition to these duties, you will be actively involved in training and participate in Permanent Education Committee (POC) meetings.
