At the Faculty of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at TU Wien, the position of a University Professor in the field of Powertrains and Automotive Technology with permanent (full-time) contractual employment is to be filled as of October 2023.

This is a professorship regulated by § 98 of the 2002 Universities Act (UG).

The position as professor for Powertrains and Automotive Technology has been allocated in TU Wien's development plan to the following TU Focal Area(s) of Research : "Computational Science & Engineering" and "Energy & Environment".

The successful candidate is expected to be a person who is outstandingly identified by high-ranking scientific publications or patents with international visibility and who represents the research and development of future environmentally friendly vehicle propulsion systems, e.g., through the use of CO2 -neutral fuels (e-fuels / syn-fuels), storage batteries and fuel cells - with the goal of climate-neutral mobility in an overall systematic view (Life Cycle Assessment LCA) – comprehensively in research and teaching.

Profound knowledge of powertrain development (incl. exhaust aftertreatment) is a prerequisite. Knowledge of integration in vehicle and mobility systems as well as calculation and simulation are required. Management experience is also required, together with the willingness to cooperate intensively with the research groups and competence clusters established at the Institute and also with the research teams of the Faculty of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering as well as the subject-relevant faculties of the TU Wien which deal particularly with the specialist topics "Future Sustainable Energy Supply, Mobility Systems and Vehicle Technologies".

Evidence of success in the acquisition and implementation of innovative development or research projects with external research partners and funding institutions in Austria and abroad must be proved. The future incumbent of the position will be put in charge of the newly established test laboratory.

In teaching, courses on the fundamentals of vehicle drive systems and the complete vehicle (vehicle drives and vehicle technology) are to be offered in several bachelor's degree programs at the curriculum. In the master's programs, subject-specific teaching content on complete vehicles, as well as on vehicle drives at the system level, alternative fuel and drive technology, and the overall topic of life cycle assessment are to be dealt with in depth.
