The Hultzsch group (https://chemcat.univie.ac.at/ ) is located in the heart of Vienna at the Institute of Functional Materials and Catalysis of the University of Vienna. The research group is engaged in the synthesis and characterization of transition metal complexes and their application in catalytic transformations, as well as mechanistic and kinetic investigations of catalytic reactions. Here, the focus is on applications in atom-economical processes, for example heterofunctionalization of alkenes, the borrowing hydrogen methodology or the valorization of renewable feedstocks. We invite applications for a Senior Scientist with a PhD in chemistry. The Lab seeks a talented and highly motivated coworker to pursue scientific research in chemical catalysis. The research should focus on the synthesis and characterization of homogeneous transition metal complexes, as well as their applications in catalytic transformations with accompanying mechanistic and computational studies. It is expected that the successful applicant will be able to lead the microanalytical laboratory of the Faculty of Chemistry as managing director. Regular publication of scientific and methodological results is strongly encouraged. Finally, the successful candidate will be able to effectively present complex results in a clear and concise manner that is accessible to a diverse scientific audience and the general public. 


Your future tasks:

Active participation in research, teaching & administration, which means:

  • Developing and strengthening the independent research profile
  • Involvement in research projects/research studies
  • International publications and presentations
  • Responsibility for project applications and the acquisition of third-party funding
  • Preparing/writing a (publication-ready) habilitation thesis
  • Independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
  • Supervision of students
  • Involvement in service and maintenance of scientific equipment, e.g. gloveboxes, and analytical instruments, e.g. GC, GC-MS, HPLC, GPC.
  • Participation in evaluation measures and quality assurance
  • Involvement in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration
