About the position

In support of each child's unique ESDM program, the speech and language therapist employed in this role will offer young children and their families specific assistance and specialist services in speech and language pathology.

This individual will contribute to the care and education of children with autism between the ages of one and five by working in an inventive transdisciplinary team that uses ESDM. Serving as a keyworker for families engaged in the group program and overseeing the children's clinical program are essential components of this.

Some of the duties of this role include but are not limited to, applying theoretical knowledge or management or policy expertise to bring together diverse and sometimes conflicting information to solve new or one off problems, adapting procedures to fit policy descriptions and Developing and improving the capability of staff within work area, motivating and mentoring them to better meet the current and future requirements of the School/Division/Department.

Skills and Experience

To be considered for this position, you will have

  • An undergraduate degree in Speech Pathology, desirable for at least 1 year subsequent experience
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple stakeholders to achieve stated outcomes.
  • Providing learning opportunities through engaging young autistic children in play and daily routines in a specialist or inclusive early childhood classroom setting
  • Using ESDM Curriculum Checklist and other relevant tools with colleague to conduct 3-monthly classroom assessment of children’s skills and strengths and collaboratively developing objectives for children with families and education team, guided by family priorities
  • Managing daily schedule to balance needs of key worker, room support, and specialist components of role, prioritising and adjusting as required to meet the needs of the service
