 About the opportunity

The Social Work Program at the University of Tasmania is in an exciting phase of expansion, establishing itself as a leader in Tasmanian-focused, world relevant research, practice, and education.

We are seeking to appoint a Social Work Clinic Manager within the School of Social Sciences which sits within the College of Arts, Law and Education .   We are a multi-campus school specialising in Sociology, Criminology, Social Work, Politics and Policy, International Relations, Tourism, Policing and Emergency Management. Students study with us across campuses in Hobart, Launceston and Burnie in Tasmania, at the Victorian Police Academy in Melbourne, and in Rozelle and Darlinghurst in New South Wales.

The position will work closely with the University of Tasmania Social Work Clinic and Research Service (SW-CARES) lead to support the core operations and deliverables of our newly established SW-CARES.  Co-located with the University Psychology and Allied Health Clinics at our Sandy Bay campus, the SW-CARES provides cutting edge interdisciplinary professional training for our Bachelor of Social Work with Honours (BSW Hons) and Master of Social Work Qualifying (MSWQ) students.

What you’ll do:

  • Coordinate, support and evaluate the SW-CARES operations in the designated area, including engaging with key stakeholders, developing new materials and resources and assisting with quality improvement.
  • Supervise and mentor social work field education placements in the SW-CARES and facilitate interdisciplinary learning across Social Work, Psychology and Allied Health.
  • Contribute to developing Indigenising and decolonising practices in the role.
  • Develop and maintain productive and effective partnerships inside the University and locally and nationally with the discipline, relevant interdisciplinary domains, profession, industry and/or wider community.

­What we’re looking for:

  • Eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
  • A degree in Social Work with at least 5 years full-time equivalent post qualifying practice experience in social work or a related field.
  • A demonstrated ability to engage in quality improvement and make data driven decisions.
  • A demonstrated ability to liaise and communicate with a broad range of stakeholders in a professional and engaging manner with a high level of cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • High level organisational and time management skills including the ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Highly developed negotiation and conflict resolution skills and the successful practical application of these.

Salary details

Appointment to this role will be at HEO 8 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $143,447 comprising base salary of $107,829 to $122,605 plus 17% superannuation.
