Why The Role Matters:

The Work Integrated Learning (WIL) team supports the development of Faculty initiatives to support and strengthen student engagement programs in order to positively influence the student experience. This includes identifying, developing, and implementing student development opportunities to enhance the student experience and ensure work-readiness. The Work Integrated Learning team is responsible for the placement, accreditation and professional experience students complete as part of their course requirements.

The Senior Work Integrated Learning Officer (ADA) is responsible for placing students in student placement opportunities within their allocated disciplines. In doing so, the Senior WIL Officer will liaise with professional stakeholders and relevant agencies to identify and obtain appropriate placements. This includes preparing students for placements; participating in seminars where needed and supporting the development and maintenance of administrative systems for student placement processes and policies.

  • Take responsibility for the placement and internships for students according to criteria and circumstances, ensuring a high level of professionalism.
  • Manage the WIL functions for placements and internships by identifying, promoting and negotiating suitable professional work placements and ensuring all government and accreditation requirements are met on time.
  • Develop strategies aligned with Faculty and UNSW objectives for the engagement and cultivation of WIL relationships and partnerships.
  • Proactively seek and identify opportunities to develop, manage and lead a portfolio of domestic and international relationships that provide WIL opportunities.
  • Work with WIL teams to successfully promote and prepare students for WIL opportunities both domestic and international.
  • Manage and maintain partnerships with key WIL stakeholders including (but not limited to) Central WIL, International Office, UNSW College, Student Exchange, Legal and Careers & Employment in order to facilitate successful WIL outcomes.
  • Work closely with the Academic convenor/s and student services to manage the identification, monitoring and support of ‘at risk’ students.

Skills and Experience: 

To be considered you will hold Australian Working Rights or Australian Citizenship. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications with extensive relevant experience or an equivalent level of knowledge, gained through a combination of education, training and/or experience.
  • Strong consultation, influencing and negotiation skills and proven ability to build effective relationships and secure resources from diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including managing workloads, setting priorities, and influencing and driving core outcomes in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven interpersonal skills with a focus on relationship development and providing a high-level of stakeholder engagement.
  • Demonstrated understanding of emerging trends in WIL and appreciation of best practice offerings, both domestic and international.
  • A successful track record in planning and execution of strategy with strong project management experience with ability to manage complex objectives and competing priorities.
  • Experience preparing committee papers, reports, proposals, recommendations, business cases and policy documents.
