Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a Senior Technician - Environmental, Geological and Biological Sciences to join Faculty Operations, Faculty of Science, Academic Division.

This full time, on-going role is responsible for the effective, safe, and sustainable operation of a range of research laboratory facilities and specialist equipment. The initial focus will be on the Centre for Agriculture and the Bioeconomy Laboratories in GP-Q Block and working with the Senior Tech Projects position to deliver plans to ensure the consistent provision of laboratory technical services. The position requires extensive biological and environmental sciences knowledge and experience to provide high quality technical support to academics, researchers, and students within the faculty. The primary focus of this technical support will be research based however engagement with and support for teaching and learning and engagement will also be expected.

• Technical Services and Space Management
The Technical Services & Space unit comprises of:
• Environmental, Geological and Biological Sciences technical support team
• Chemistry and Physical Sciences technical support team
• Space, Assets, Logistics and Technology support team

Faculty Operations is led by the Faculty Operations Manager and is supported by the Senior Management Accountant and the Technical Services & Space Manager..

What you need to succeed

  • Completion of a relevant degree, with subsequent pertinent experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training, preferably in a biological sciences laboratory setting or industry research environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply fundamental biology principles to a variety of educational and/or research applications in the pursuit of academic excellence.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing clear and concise documentation and communicating effectively with a range of people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proven ability to prioritise tasks, critically evaluate systems and processes and work collaboratively to achieve team-based outcomes in a complex, fast paced and changing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain an effective health and safety culture, and knowledge of the regulations pertinent to a research environment including the Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR), Biosecurity Australia and domestic Quarantine.
