Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a Senior Technician - Chemistry and Physics to join Faculty Operations, Faculty of Science, Academic Division.

About the Position This Senior Technician – Chemistry and Physics provides operational laboratory support expertise within a highly professional and agile technical team. They are responsible for the effective, safe, and sustainable operation of a range of laboratory facilities and equipment. The role requires extensive Chemistry and Physics knowledge and experience in providing high quality technical support to academics and students within the faculty. The primary focus of this technical support will be research based however engagement with and support for, teaching and learning and engagement will also be expected. Maintaining awareness of current and emerging support requirements, this role will contribute to the continual improvement of technical services supporting the Faculty’s research, learning and teaching, and engagement programs.

•    Financial Management
•    Technical Services & Space Management

The Technical Services & Space unit comprises of:
•    Environmental, Geological and Biological Sciences technical support team
•    Chemistry and Physical Sciences technical support team
•    Space, Assets, Logistics and Technology support team.

What you need to succeed

  • Completion of a relevant degree, with subsequent relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training, preferably in a Chemistry or Physics research laboratory environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret client requirements and develop detailed support solutions using an extensive range of laboratory skills and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply fundamental Chemistry and Physics principles to a variety of educational and/or research applications in the pursuit of academic excellence.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing clear and concise documentation and communicating effectively with a range of people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proven ability to prioritise tasks, critically evaluate systems and processes and work collaboratively to achieve team-based outcomes in a complex, fast-paced and changing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain an effective health and safety culture.
