About the Role 
We are seeking an experienced individual to join Swinburne’s dynamic Science Technical team as a Senior Technical Officer to support our research and teaching activities. You will have a strong background in Chemistry, particularly in Analytical Chemistry Instrumentation and be dedicated to continuous learning and professional development. 

This role will showcase your scientific laboratory skills and hands-on approach to laboratory management, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to drive innovation and excellence. You will play a pivotal role in maintaining a strong onsite laboratory presence to ensure safety and compliance with OHS requirements, providing valuable guidance on OH&S issues to staff and students, and upholding the highest standards of safety and housekeeping in research laboratories and storerooms. Working closely with academic, research, and technical staff, you will deliver exceptional customer service and contribute to a culture of excellence and collaboration.

About You  
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:

  • Extensive experience in laboratory operations, following SOP’s and safety polices.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge in the operation of a wide range of analytical equipment specifically LCMS, NMR, HPLC, GCMS and other Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry instrumentation and techniques.
  • Proven experience in creating safety documentation such as Standard Operating Procedure, Safe Working Instructions and Risk Assessments for complex instrumentation and tasks.
  • Extensive experience in chemical management in relation to technical and laboratory operations, including an understanding of statutory requirements associated with chemical hazards.
  • High degree of initiative to support, advice and assist students with their experimental methods, particularly with the ability to diagnose and resolve instrumentation issues.
  • Exceptional time management and prioritization skills.

Qualifications

An Undergraduate Science Degree in Chemistry (with Honours is preferable) and subsequent relevant experience in research.
