Exciting times at the School of Civil and Mechanical Engineering as we have acquired laboratory facilities worth over $5 million, including pavement/geotechnology research facilities, water laboratory enhancements, structures, including a heavy-testing-rig with 500t capacity, bio-activated laboratories, and earthquake engineering facilities (stress -tubes and canon impact, earthquake engineering and blast impact engineering). These purpose-built learning facilities are sophisticated, stimulating, and creative learning environments that offer problem-based learning, group collaboration and the opportunity to share ideas with industry.

Your new role

As a Senior Technical Officer supporting Civil Engineering, you will be providing technical support and associated services for teaching and research programs.
You will coordinate the day to day requirements of the laboratory and workshop areas, ensuring effective space allocation for classes and/or research projects. You’ll prepare materials and ensure laboratory facility resources are prepared in advance and well organised for teaching and research activities.  You will supervise and provide technical instruction and guidance to staff and students in class, including guidance on the design and development of experimental processes using relevant equipment and will maintain general and specialized laboratories and equipment, undertaking safety checks, servicing and repair.
You will play an important role in ensuring that occupational health and safety regulations and specific statutory requirements related to the area’s activities are followed. Developing, implementing, and maintaining standard operating procedures for all aspects of the laboratory and workshop operations  Conduct and ensure all staff and students participate in safety inductions and that health and safety criteria are adhered to at all times.
Candidates with a degree qualification in Civil Engineering and subsequent relevant experience; or relevant trade qualification and extensive trade experience and expertise; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.
Candidates should also portray demonstrated organisational skills and experience in or the ability to manage the operational requirements of a small scientific facility, laboratory space or field station.
High Risk work licenses such as Dogging, Rigging and Forklift license are desirable but not essential.
