About the role:

The Senior Systems and Data Analyst is responsible for maintaining the systems within CIO, and developing and delivering reporting requirements from these systems.

The Senior Systems and Data Analyst is responsible for providing elevated level technical and system management expertise, implementing quality business solutions, and ensuring that business requirements are effectively met. The position is required to function independently in executing business process enhancements and assist Manager, System and Reporting in functional deliverables. The position also ensures quality data is entered and reported from the supported systems.

This position reports to the Manager, System and Reporting and has no direct reports. However, this position may supervise support staff or contractors from time-to-time on a temporary basis for system implementation, maintenance, management, and process improvement purposes.

Specific accountabilities for this role include:

  • Develop a detailed understanding of business systems and processes related to Conduct & Integrity Office to effectively implement technical solutions that meet the needs of the business.
  • Support and maintain the enterprise complaint management system, including accommodating field updates to capture required data, user roles and security access management and monitoring other enterprise system integration.
  • Lead and manage the technical enhancement of the complaint management system based on business requirements and provide extensive recommendations for process improvements where appropriate.
  • Devise and present strategies to improve efficiency and demonstrate effective use of business process tools
  • Perform comprehensive and systematic user requirements gathering and acceptance testing to ensure that system deployments and patches are fit for purpose and any potential bugs are minimised.
  • Independently lead complex technical projects and manage the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Conduct & Integrity Office systems.
  • Effectively use project tracking and knowledge sharing tools (e.g., JIRA and Confluence) and ensure all related documentation is appropriately maintained and up to date.
  • Manage and develop wireframes, flow charts and system maps to communicate potential solutions to stakeholders.
  • Work effectively individually and as part of a team in a fast-paced and deadline driven environment.
  • Provide recommendations and high-level advice to the Manager System and Reporting on risks and issues that may impact on the scope, budget, or schedule of the project.
  • Manage the delivery of accurate and timely reports to meet the University's reporting and information needs, including the development of automated standardised reports to support the core operations within the Conduct & Integrity Office and supported business.
  • Provide high-level data analysis and technical reports to inform the strategic approach of projects, core operations, and initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain strong, collaborative working relationships with internal UNSW departments and external vendor(s) to foster engagement in the project.

  • Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself or others.

Your skills and experience:

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant degree with extensive experience in systems management/ analytics or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education, training and experience.
  • Extensive experience implementing new systems or major changes to an existing system in a complex environment, including providing business analysis, process mapping, data migration, wireframing, systems configuration, and user acceptance testing services.
  • High-level conceptual, business analytical and problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to translate complex business requirements into effective technical solutions.
  • Demonstrated high-level organisational and time management skills, with an ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce a wide range of written communication such as reports, briefings, policies, guidelines and procedures.
  • Extensive experience in data analysis and reporting using data from multiple sources (e.g. HR, Student, CMS and other internal and external systems) and expertise in variety of tools and applications (e.g. Excel, Tableau, Microsoft Power BI, etc).
  • A strong track record in quickly developing a deep understanding of business processes, analysing business needs, configuring system to business processes.
  • Demonstrated experience in business process and Office tools (VISIO, MF forms/ power automate etc)
  • Experience eliciting client requirements, collecting and analysing data, and resolving issues.
  • High level organisational and project management skills with experience in leading a project to deliver critical operational tasks for a wide variety of stakeholders in a deadline driven environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement and requirements gathering for large-scale business process change and/or information system implementations.
  • Experience within Higher Education, with an understanding of complaint management and reporting requirements is preferred.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together
