The School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences at The University of Queensland teaches and researches in the disciplines of Chemistry, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Microbiology and Parasitology. Situated in the Faculty of Science, the School is one of the largest in the University with nearly 200 full-time equivalent staff, and extensive laboratory facilities, scientific equipment holdings and workshop.  It spans two buildings on the St Lucia campus and has links to a number of the University's research institutes.

The School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences house two Mass Spectrometry facilities, supporting accurate mass / small molecule analyses and also proteomic / other biological workflows.


The role

The successful appointee will provide routine technical and scientific support to researchers in the area of mass spectrometry and associated techniques under the direction of the Mass Spectrometry Facility Manager. Duties include analysis of samples by mass spectrometry, training of students and staff on instruments, and routine maintenance of instruments.


The person

Applicants should possess degree qualifications in a relevant discipline in science. You should have strong interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written) to provide support to staff and students with varying degrees of experience and understanding of mass spectrometry and related techniques. 

Essential criteria include at least three (3) years practical laboratory bench experience, including hands-on experience with mass spectrometers and High Performance Liquid Chromatography systems. In addition, previous experience in scientific service provision, training and supervision of students and staff is required.

Remuneration

This is a full-time, continuing appointment at HEW Level 6. The remuneration package will be in the range $74,207 - $79,964 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $86,822 - $93,557 p.a.).
