About the Role

The Senior Research Fellow will provide subject matter expertise in bioinformatics to researchers and take a lead role in co-designing and analysing research projects and outputs. This will be completed through the attraction of external grants and research contracts, delivering on strategic research objectives, establishing, and maintaining industry and research partnerships, and building the University’s national and international reputation through high quality publications and strong research collaborations. This position may be required to supervise and mentor HDR students and more junior staff.

About You

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:

  • Completion of a PhD or equivalent in Bioinformatics
  • Experience with the analysis of high throughput “omics” data
  • Ability to script write in Perl/Python and R (or similar) for data manipulation and bioinformatics analysis in a UNIX environment
  • High level understanding of molecular biology and genomics technologies undertaken within FHMRI bioplatforms, FHMRI core facilities, FHMRI research laboratories and cutting-edge research technologies from around the world
  • An outstanding research track record in an area aligned with research strengths in Bioinformatics, including evidence of sustained high-quality publications (ideally with corresponding authorship) and attraction of competitive grants
  • Demonstrated supervision of honours and higher degree students to successful completion and ability to mentor less experienced College Staff.
