About This Opportunity
This is a great opportunity to join the School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences as a Senior Research Administration Officer. In this role, you will be involved in the projects ‘Pride, Resilience and Identity: Reimagining Aboriginal Sport History’ and ‘Torres Strait Islander History: Sport, Culture and Identity ’, funded by the Australian Research Council (ARC) and being undertaken by Professor Murray Phillips, Associate Professor Gary Osmond, and Mr Alistair Harvey, in conjunction with Professor Barry Judd from the University of Melbourne.
Sport is central to Indigenous communities, identities, and cultures. These projects aim to engage Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in the history-making process by combining the passion for sport that exists in these communities with culturally appropriate digital technologies. The goal is to expand our understanding of the complexity of life for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples during their institutionalisation under the State Protection Acts. Anticipated benefits include the empowerment associated with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples reclaiming their histories. The scholarship produced will prioritise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander agendas, interests, and narratives, facilitating reconciliation through an understanding of the multifaceted relationship between sport and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Key responsibilities for the Senior Research Administration Officer will include:
Coordinating aspects of the research project on the history of Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islanders
Assisting in creating Ethics Proposals, creating Ethics applications for the projects and any other administrative requirements relating to Ethics
Performing basic research and archival activities required by the projects
Maintaining research-related databases, records, and electronic documentation
Contributing to databases on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander sport history
Organising travel and accommodation for field trips and research venues
Assisting the research team to facilitate the completion of the projects by the proposed deadline
This is a part-time (40%), fixed-term position for up to 2 years.
At HEW level 6, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $88,099 - $94,512, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $103,076 - $110,579 annually. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases – at least once a year.
About You
This role involves basic historical research, research coordination and database work, and is ideally suited to someone with historical or archival training and an understanding of Australian/Queensland history.
Ideally, you will be able to demonstrate:
A degree with subsequent relevant experience; or equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
Experience in research administration with a sound knowledge of research policies and procedures or the demonstrated capacity to rapidly gain that knowledge.
Foundational knowledge about Australian/Queensland history including an understanding of Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander history and cultures.
Demonstrated ability to develop strong relationships with colleagues internal and external to the University including professional, academic staff and health professionals engaged in research.
Advanced skills in the use of computer applications for word-processing, data storage and retrieval, and spreadsheets including experience working with basic databases for archiving information and sources.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team or independently as necessary and exercise judgement and initiative.
Excellent organisational skills with demonstrated ability to manage and prioritise competing tasks and meet deadlines.
Prior experience working with Indigenous communities would be desirable.
