About the opportunity

The Social Work Program at the University of Tasmania is in an exciting phase of expansion, establishing itself as a leader in Tasmanian-focused, world relevant research, practice, and education.

We are seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer in Social Work in the School of Social Sciences , which sits within the College of Arts, Law and Education .  We are a multi-campus school specialising in Sociology, Criminology, Social Work, Politics and Policy, International Relations, Tourism, Policing and Emergency Management. Students study with us across campuses in Hobart, Launceston and Burnie in Tasmania, at the Victorian Police Academy in Melbourne, and in Rozelle and Darlinghurst in New South Wales. The role with work closely with senior academic staff to develop their teaching and research expertise with increasing autonomy.

What You’ll Do

  • Make an effective and sustained contribution to the University in achieving its strategic objectives and fulfilling its operational responsibilities.
  • Build strong and productive partnerships both inside the University and locally and nationally with the discipline, relevant interdisciplinary domains, profession, industry and/or wider community to enhance translation and impact.
  • Deliver high-quality scholarly undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, using innovative approaches to prepare students for the future social work workforce.
  • Apply your expertise in a range of areas of research and practice relevant to social work to contribute to the development and innovation of the social work discipline.
  • Contribute to developing Indigenising and decolonising practices across the range of research, teaching, and professional activities undertaken in the role.
  • Undertake other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

What We’re Looking For (success criteria)

  • PhD in Social Work and eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
  • Evidence of a strong research track record (relevant to career stage) in an area aligned with Social Work practice, including a sustained record of high-quality publications and successful competitive funding.
  • A demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team and contribute actively to team leadership and capacity building.
  • Demonstrated experience and successful track record of mentoring and supervising honours and higher degree research students to completion.
  • Significant track record in delivering dynamic and relevant learning experiences for students at the University level in Social Work, including responsibility for course coordination and curriculum design.
  • A minimum of two years (FTE) post-qualifying practice experience.

 Salary details

Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level C and will have a total remuneration package of up to $173,682 comprising base salary within the range of $130,713 to $148,446 plus 17% superannuation.
