About This Opportunity 

The Senior Lecturer in Rural and Remote Medicine will provide academic leadership in the facilitation of rural and remote medical education and clinical experiences in the Doctor of Medicine program. This position works closely with the Head of the Mayne Academy of Rural and Remote Medicine and the Academy for Medical Education, supporting the integration of rural and remote medicine learning across all four years of the new program with a focus on Years 2, 3 & 4 as well as lead the engagement with rural clinicians.

This position reports to the Head, Mayne Academy of Rural and Remote Medicine and Rural and Remote Clinical Unit.

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Teaching: Be an effective and professional role model and contribute to a positive student experience.

  • Provide leadership for and contribute to the integration of rural and remote medicine in the new MD program, with a focus on years 2, 3 and 4.  

  • Assist Course Coordinator of the RRM course MEDI7315, deputising as required.

  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of the Clinical Longitudinal Integrated Placement – Rural program, for the Mayne Academy of Rural and Remote Medicine.

  • Research: Contribute to Mayne Academy of Rural and Remote Medicine research and build capacity by encouraging students and clinical staff to undertake research and scholarship of teaching and learning. 

  • Supervision and Researcher Development: Lead and develop employee performance and conduct by providing effective feedback, coaching, and professional development, where applicable.

  • Citizenship and Service: Consistently demonstrate behaviours that align to the UQ values.

This is a part-time (50%), fixed-term position through to 31st December 2024.

At Academic level C. The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $132,201 - $152,202, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $154,676 - $178,076 annually. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases – at least once a year.

About You  

  • Medical qualification and eligibility for registration as a medical practitioner in Australia, with a specialist qualification recognised by:

    • Royal Australian College of General Practitioners s or Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine.

  • PhD or equivalent in the disciplinary area, or an appropriate combination of professional and academic service relevant to Rural and Remote Medicine.

  • An established profile in clinical teaching and/or clinical research in the discipline area.

  • Evidence of a substantial contribution to quality clinical teaching at undergraduate postgraduate and/or professional entry level.

  • Expert discipline knowledge and extensive experience in a general or specialist capacity, including evidence of dissemination and adoption of new and innovative clinical techniques.

  • Active participation in the development and continuous innovation of programs, curricula and/or course material in the discipline area.

  • Record of supervision of HDR students and/or trainees in speciality training programs.

  • Ability to establish effective relationships and to represent and promote the RCU and RCS within health care facilities, at a university level and in the wider community including professional bodies.

  • A commitment to and an understanding of the issues surrounding, living, and working in a rural and/or regional area.

  • Mandatory Immunisations: It is a condition of employment for this role that you will be required to provide evidence of immunisation against certain vaccine preventable diseases.

  • AHPRA: It is a condition of employment for this role that you are required to have and maintain Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) registration during the course of your employment.
