OVERVIEW
If you see yourself as leading the development of professional psychologists in training then this Senior Lectureship in Professional Psychology is for you. 

THE ROLE
We are looking for an outstanding psychology educator with great skills in teaching, curriculum development and coordinating courses in professional psychology to continue ECU’s great reputation for producing outstanding psychology graduates. In the first 3 years your role will be to lead and develop the post graduate training of professional psychologists.You will commence as Course Coordinator, Master of Professional Psychology and be part of the development of an integrated program across APAC Levels 2-4 (Master of Psychology / Master of Clinical Psychology). You will need to be able to teach, supervise and develop curriculum in postgraduate psychology and have strong skills in informal leadership as the Course Coordinator. Some of your time will be spent engaging with students and staff at our community-facing Psychological Services Centre in Wanneroo.

You will report to the Associate Dean Psychology, Counselling and Criminology and have close working relationships with the Director, Psychological Services Centre, the course coordinators of our various psychology postgraduate degrees and the school’s Work-Integrated Learning team who support placement operations. We value your own commitment to maintaining a psychological practice and may consider a fractional appointment (4 days a week) for the right candidate.

Your focus in the role is on teaching and teaching leadership: however, opportunities for research may be available for the right candidate. Appointment to a teaching and research position would require an existing research program and would necessitate a full-time appointment.

SELECTION CRITERIA
To be considered for this position, you will need to meet current registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia; have current Psychology Board of Australia Approved Supervisor Status, with approval to supervise provisional psychologists during an accredited higher degree program, and recent experience in supervising provisionally registered psychologists. 

You will need to demonstrate, based on past achievement and potential for future development, that you can:

  • coordinate and lead programs for the professional training of psychologists.
  • teach effectively with a student-centred approach that facilitates successful learning;
  • engage productively with industry and community to advance teaching and/or research;
  • develop and implement innovations that improve curricula and teaching;
  • exercise scholarly leadership consistent with your level of appointment; and
  • work productively and collegially to achieve the goals of the school and university.
  • It is desirable that you also have either a Doctor of Philosophy or a Doctor of Psychology qualification. You may also have an Area of Practice Endorsement in Clinical Psychology with no conditions, undertakings, or reprimands. Applicants seeking a teaching and research appointment need to have appropriate qualifications and prior achievement in research.

    This appointment will be part of the Professional Psychology group within Psychology, Counselling and Criminology, located on our Joondalup campus. The focus of the work to be performed is at the long-established Psychological Services Centre within ECU’s Health Centre in Wanneroo. The school is also now developing a Counselling Clinic in Yanchep to begin training our post graduate Counselling and Psychotherapy students in 2024. This Clinic may, in time, come to include psychology students. The Professional Psychology group works closely with the Academic Psychology group as part of an integrated program of education across all four APAC levels.

    This position provides a full-time salary of $134,035 to $154,013 pa (Level C) (or pro rata for part-time) plus 17% University superannuation contribution.
