About the Role:

The overall purpose of the Senior Lecturer in Environmental Science position is to contribute to the design and delivery of the undergraduate and post graduate science courses within the College of Sport, Health and Engineering.  

A key responsibility of the position will be the development and delivery of workshops and tutorials, designing projects, and conducting laboratory classes and field trips. The position will be a unit convenor and Course Chair, with supervisory responsibilities for sessional staffing and research students as required. The position supervises final-year projects in two or more of the following subject areas: botany, zoology, ecology, environmental rehabilitation, aquatic ecology and/or conservation biology (including conservation genetics).

This is a full time position at a  Academic C classification, and the salary range is $129,435- $ $149,246, working 36.75 hours per week over a continuing contract period.

An example of your responsibilities or duties you may perform will include:

  • Work with Science and other relevant staff, and independently, to develop and deliver high quality, student centred, learning opportunities  
  • Undertake assessment activities that are authentic, providing timely and informative feedback to students.
  • Apply for funding, conduct research in a relevant scientific discipline and publish research outputs in high-quality peer review journals.
  • Promoting an environment of safety, sustainability and inclusion to embed a values-driven culture, including Protecting Country.

About You:


To be successful in this role, you will be an academic with:

  • Knowledge or training equivalent to: Completion of a PhD or have equivalent professional standing in environmental sciences with recent, relevant experience in ecology and/or environmental management, and/or any of the subject areas listed above. 
  • Demonstrated ability/experience in teaching, unit convening and curriculum design in environmental science related topics at a tertiary level.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively as part of a team, together with the capability to work alone/independently and meet objectives.
  • A demonstrated ability to establish effective relationships with staff, students, industry and relevant stakeholders.
  • Highly developed ability to organise and prioritise workload in a busy/demanding environment and complete competing work tasks within specified timeframes.
