The Opportunity
This Level C academic position at Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute (BDI) offers a unique opportunity to lead in the field of bioinformatics education and research. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in delivering Masters-level courses focused on bioinformatics. With a passion for education and extensive experience in genomics, the appointee will contribute to curriculum development, unit coordination, and the delivery of both online and face-to-face teaching materials. Reporting to the Head of Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, this role combines teaching excellence with active engagement in scholarly activities, ensuring a dynamic learning environment for students.
In addition to teaching responsibilities, the role involves conducting and overseeing research in bioinformatics, offering opportunities for leadership within a research team. The successful candidate will leverage their expertise in bioinformatics to drive innovative research projects relevant to major human diseases and pathological processes. With a focus on bioinformatic principles and practices, including Unix/Linux proficiency and scripting expertise in Python and R, the appointee will contribute to advancing knowledge in the field while nurturing the next generation of bioinformatics professionals.
As part of the Monash BDI community, the appointee will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and industry partners to facilitate the translation of research into real-world applications. Strong project management skills and a proven track record of obtaining external research grants are essential for success in this role.
The successful appointee will have a doctoral qualification in the relevant discipline such as bioinformatics, genome sciences, computational biology, or a related area, or equivalent work experience. Further criteria are outlined in the Position Description.
