About the opportunity
The University of Sydney is welcoming applications for a Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Physics and Modelling The successful applicant will be recognised at a national level for expanding knowledge within the discipline or area of expertise. Reporting to the Head of School Professor Celine Boehm you will be is expected to make a significant contribution to the research, education and administrative endeavours of your School/ Faculty by building and maintaining reputation for academic excellence.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
contribute to outstanding teaching and learning outcomes
coordinate and develop curricula and programs within the School/Faculty (e.g. coordination of a large award program or a number of smaller award programs)
develop, trials and evaluate innovative practices in teaching and learning with a view to improving educational outcomes
develop programs, technologies or teaching resources which are evaluated, shared and disseminated
coordinate and engage in high-quality teaching and learning experiences which meet the University’s expectations and standards for education
maintain a research profile which meets University expectations and standards and enhances the reputation
engage in keynotes and apply for competitive grants and establish a range of collaborations and partnerships with other colleagues, experts, universities and industry
provide mentoring and guidance to academics within the School/ Faculty, including mentoring others to academic success
provide leadership with a significant impact on your School/ Faculty in teaching, teaching innovation or curriculum development and/or research training and supervision.
The School of Physics at the University of Sydney is the leading Physics department in the country, with outstanding staff and students undertaking world-leading teaching and research. Our 114 academic staff and 157 postgraduate students conduct research across a vast range of interests from nanoparticles to clusters of galaxies and from theoretical modelling to laboratory experiments. With the support of 20+ professional, technical and administrative staff, the School of Physics teaches to a cohort of approximately 274 equivalent full-time student load (EFTSL) undergraduate students. About you

a PhD in Physics or closely related discipline
a demonstrated capacity to teach physics at university level, and to supervise PhD and other research students in physics
a strong background and primary interest in Physics and Modelling, with skills in computer science, or related areas
a demonstrated capacity to teach physics at university level, and to supervise PhD and other research students in physics
a track record of conducting research independently
a track record of content development and research-based teaching, including for online delivery
experience in teaching administration (including unit coordination)
the ability to supervise students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
proven research excellence in this particular area of physics
the ability to engage as a member of the University community in committees, administrative duties, and governance at any or all of school, faculty, or University level as appropriate
proven experience in research record keeping, preparation of research papers and presentation of seminars.
The commencement level will be determined based on the candidate’s skills, experience, and knowledge.
