About This Opportunity 

The Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Food Technology contributes to teaching, research, and service as a joint appointment between the School of Agriculture and Food Sustainability and the Centre for Nutrition and Food Sciences (CNAFS) in the Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI). 

The position is responsible for teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the Food Science and Technology programs at the St Lucia campus. The person will also contribute to the strong national and international research profile of the University, supervise research students, establish a research program through successful applications for external grant funding, and carry out internal and external service duties.

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Teach across different settings and develop innovative curriculum design including online learning and alternative teaching methods and resources.

  • Coordinate courses, prepare and deliver lectures and tutorials, and undertake assessment and marking for undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

  • Maintain and active record of producing quality research outputs consistent with discipline norms as lead contributor, by publishing or exhibiting in national research journals, other appropriate refereed publications, and conference publications.

  • Seek, obtain, and manage external research funding.

  • Act as Principal Supervisor to Higher Degree by Research students.

  • Demonstrates and leads others in the responsible conduct of research.

This is a full-time (100%), continuing position.

At Academic level C, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $129,609.64 - $149,217.97, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $151,643.28 - $174,585.02 annually. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases – at least once a year.

At Academic level D, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $155,754.09 - $171,441.34, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $182,232.29 - $200,586.37 annually. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases – at least once a year.

About You  

  • Possess a PhD in food processing technology, food materials science, food engineering or related discipline and appropriate postdoctoral research experience in an area of food engineering or closely related discipline.

  • National recognition in the area of expertise, demonstration of success in obtaining external research funds, and an established record of publications in reputed refereed journal and presenting at conferences.

  • Research interests that complement those of other staff members as outlined on the School and/or QAAFI website.

  • Evidence of a high level of quality teaching at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate level across a variety of settings, including small and large groups.

  • A strong track record of course coordination and participation in the development and continuous innovation of new programs, curriculum design and course material in the discipline area.

  • An established record of supervision of Honours and Research Higher Degree students to successful completion
