• From $115,030 to $127,995 (HEW Level 8), plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading.
• Full time continuing role. Based at Wallumattagal campus, North Ryde.
• High performing team. Hybrid working arrangement.

THE ROLE

To provide expert financial analytics and technical insights into business activities across the University Group and perform financial planning and analytics activities for an allocated stakeholder group.

Key accountabilities:

  • Develop expert knowledge and insight into the largest financial components of the Group to provide practical thought leadership across Group Finance processes and take ownership of the quality of end-to-end information flows (e.g. employment costs from source system data through to Group Exec reporting)
  • Develop & implement the redesign and implementation of the new budget process by utilising FP&A and stakeholder management experience to take ownership of delivering the process, communications and critical evaluation of the largest financial components of the Group budget.
  • Support the implementation of change initiatives and critical enablers to the new Group Finance model
  • Manage projects which develop critical enablers that enhance efficiencies and analytical quality from the FP&A team by partnering with IT, Finance and business unit stakeholders for reporting development and building analytical data set
  • Provide expert knowledge for the Group in business cases, financial modelling, financial evaluation and cost benefit analyses. Includes clear articulation of business case benefits, benefits tracking, post implementation reviews, and ensuring benefit commitment are included in future forecasts, budgets and long-term plans.
  • Manage a small team and ensure delivery of monthly management reports and other standardise reports

Critical to your success in this role, will be your strong experience in a similar role within a large organisation with complex accounting and reporting requirements.

About Us

Group Finance is responsible for providing a broad range of financial services to support the University’s core mission of teaching and research. Group Finance will be organised into the following functional areas:

Finance Shared Services – provides efficient transactional finance services to the University Group, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Purchasing.

Financial Operations – provides general accounting activities, including month-end and year-end financial closure of businesses across the University. The team will have full responsibility for month-end close activities and will be responsible for the primary review of University Group-wide results.

Financial Performance and Business Partnering – provides planning, reporting, analysis, and business partnering activities for business units across the University Group. Positions will be organised across 2 teams:

  • Financial Planning and Analysis – full responsibility for the budgeting and forecasting processes, and financial reporting of all business units across the University Group. The team will also work closely with Finance Business Partners to provide analysis and insights for stakeholders.
  • Finance Business Partners – full responsibility for providing a concise suite of high impact, value added services to Executive Group members and their teams. This will include providing critical analysis and insight, scenario modelling and cost-benefit analyses, commercial evaluation, and strategic financial advice. This team will include a specialist business partnering for MQ Health Finance role with specific responsibilities to the MQ Health CEO and COO.

Financial Control, Tax and Treasury – provides technical accounting, tax, treasury, control and compliance advisory for business units across the University Group.

  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (particularly Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Good understanding of financial modelling and scenario analyses
  • Good understanding of accounting principles and procedures
  • Business Intelligence systems and reporting platforms skills e.g. PowerBI, Tableau, Cognos TM1, Calumo, Adaptive
  • 7+ years of experience (desirable) delivering quality reporting
  • Extensive experience in analysing, manipulating and summarising large volumes of data in a robust and controlled manner
  • Strong experience in forecasting financials and budget preparation responsibility
  • Relevant experience in accounting, finance, or equivalent
  • Experience conducting research and analysis with a commercial focus
  • Strong financial modelling expertise to produce business models
  • Strong experience working with large Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (preferably FinanceOne)
