Senior Educational Developer, Nexus Program - UNSW Engineering

  • Employment Type:  Full Time 35 hours per week
  • Duration: Fixed term until April 2026
  • Remuneration: Level 8 (from $118,883 plus 17% superannuation and leave loading)

At UNSW, new educational initiatives are constantly being developed in the PVCESE (Pro Vice-Chancellor Education & Student Experience Portfolio) for implementation in the Faculties and Schools, while many innovations introduced by individual academics, Schools and Faculties have potential for institution-wide application. The PVCESE portfolio is UNSW Sydney’s education and student experience hub, providing University-wide support and resources to staff and student communities.

The Nexus Program will provide a critical missing link between organisational units at UNSW, connecting faculties to each other and to the PVCESE to develop and implement co-ordinated solutions to challenges in education and student experience. Through the recruitment of education-related staff distributed throughout UNSW’s Sydney and Canberra-based schools, Nexus Program will provide the Schools and Faculties with extra capacity to enable widespread implementation of educational initiatives. Additionally, it will provide a mechanism for educators to contribute to and provide feedback on centrally developed education programs.

Why Your Role Matters:

As the Senior Educational Developer, Nexus Program you will play a key role in the Engineering Education Innovation Team and the Nexus Program Team by providing leadership, strategic thinking, and assisting in the implementation and evaluation of institution-wide educational initiatives.

The role involves consulting for, designing, and developing quality learning activities, modules, programs, and courses in collaboration with a range of stakeholders including academics, professional staff, and members of the Nexus Program Team in the faculty and the PVCESE portfolio to achieve learning and teaching goals of the university.

The role reports to the Engineering Education Innovation Manager, with a dotted line to the Project Lead, Nexus Program, and has 4 direct reports – four Educational Developers, Nexus Program.

Responsibilities:

  • Support educational improvements in the Faculty through:
    • Managing prioritization and implementation of new institution-wide educational initiatives through effective management of Educational Developer, Nexus Program and communication with Education Focused Fellow, Nexus Program in the faculty.
    • Development, design, implementation and evaluation of digital resources and activities for blended, hybrid and online delivery;
    • Planning and assisting in the adoption of institution-wide educational initiatives and other new teaching approaches and technologies; and
    • Adapting institutional solutions to the Faculty context where necessary;
  • Develop and manage effective communications, training, and resources for key stakeholders, to support Nexus Program initiatives in the Faculty.
  • Interpret requirements of the Project Lead, Nexus Program, and the Faculty Education Innovation Manager, providing proactive advice and solution-focused action in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders through consultation and provision of advice on effective and innovative teaching strategies and activities in the UNSW Education Co-op.
  • Collaborate with other members of the Nexus Program team to ensure consistent approaches to the implementation of new initiatives across schools and faculties.
  • Provide advice, support and troubleshooting to academics on the implementation of university-wide initiatives, and on other effective digital tools and techniques for achieving their specific learning goals.

Who You Are:

You will have

  • A degree in education or educational technologies with a depth of subsequent relevant experience in educational design, or other equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education, training and/or experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail for deliverables produced, especially in relation to creation of reports and analysis for senior leadership and stakeholders in the wider education community.
  • Sound stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior management and liaise effectively with a range of stakeholders to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing pedagogically appropriate systems or programs requiring integration of theoretical or technical knowledge in a complex, specialized environment.
  • Advanced experience working with a range of educational technologies and common learning management systems.
