THE ROLE

The Senior Data Analyst is responsible for functional and technical leadership and provides both strategic and transactional support and advice in relation to data analytics that enable evidence-based decision making.


Reporting to the Head - Enterprise Analytics, key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Provide functional and technical leadership and specialist support of data analytics that enable evidence-based decision making.

  • Responsible for multiple or all aspects of strategic planning, consultancy, requirements analysis, design, build and configuration, test, change management and training, release management, monitoring, tuning, and maintenance of associated analytics platforms and technologies.

  • Provide advice to MQ clients and MQ IT leadership in relevant analytics platforms and technologies, including identification and evaluation of emerging technologies and trends that have the potential to create value, the identification of business and technology risks, and opportunities to continually improve efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Oversee and execute the design, implementation, and operation of analytics, analytics platforms and technologies, including liaison with internal and external stakeholders, service partners and suppliers, and ensure compliance with relevant MQ and MQ IT standards and processes, to maintain the protection of enterprise information and reliability of service delivery.

  • Review and ensure relevant changes to comply with operational requirements for service delivery.

  • Assess and plan for availability, performance, and capacity of services and resources to ensure cost-justifiable business needs and service level expectations are met, and future needs are considered.

  • Lead continuous improvement of relevant processes, standards and procedures, and ensure that support documentation is developed and maintained to ensure tasks are performed reliably and consistently, and to mitigate the likelihood and severity of service outages.

  • Contribute to the development of relevant analytics capability within the University, including knowledge sharing and coaching.

  • Contribute to project work as subject matter expert, working with project manager to scope, size and complete work assigned to agreed performance targets.

Selection Criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in Data and Analytics, Data Science, Business or Statistics or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience with demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.

  • Knowledge and experience as a subject matter expert in analytics with experience spanning data engineering, descriptive analytics, business intelligence, statistical analysis, and predictive modelling.

  • Knowledge of relevant concepts e.g., database management and extensive experience in the use of systems thinking methods and relevant tools and techniques for analysis, and the application of performance indicators in strategic management.

  • Exposure in curating and linking benchmark data to generate innovative insights.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Alteryx, Python, R, SQL, AWS, and PowerBI

  • Performing complex analysis using a variety of methods for both relational and non-relational data sets to facilitate evidence-based decision making.

  • Technical leadership of the implementation of data and/or integration solutions for complex enterprise systems within complex multi-stakeholder and formalised project delivery environments

  • Providing specialist data and/or integration support in the context of a mature IT service delivery organisation supporting both cloud and hybrid on-premises application configurations.

  • Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills including the ability to analyse and interpret requirements and information from numerous sources.

  • Time management and ability to balance competing demands to effectively prioritise tasks and achieve deadlines, on individual basis as well as for a team.

Must Have (Technical Skills):

  • SQL DB, SQL Server, SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS), SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), Financial Reporting and PowerBI


Desirable systems knowledge

  • Experience in supporting Finance, Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) teams.


Good to Have (Technical Skills):

  • Calumo or Any Financial planning tool

Responsibilities:

  • Perform technical scoping and development for integration of data to the central financial reporting system via SQL, SSIS, SSAS, CALUMO (Financial budgeting and forecasting). Build budgeting and forecasting applications to support Finance team using SQL and Calumo and Handle data and ETL change requests.

  • Automate and improve the highly-material finance processes within the University & Hospital.

  • Support the budgeting and forecasting processes by using all your skills and knowledge – learning new skills along the way. (Using Calumo or similar budgeting and forecasting tool)

  • Develop enhanced reporting capabilities to the wider Finance team and support Executive reporting improvement.

  • Maintain user access and user management for Calumo, SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS), SSIS, Financial Reporting and PowerBI.

  • Maintain and handle requests for system changes to financial reporting hierarchies and structures.

  • Upskill and support the wider Finance Team in becoming self-sufficient in utilising systems (Calumo) and helping develop customised reporting.
