UNSW Planning and Performance (UPP) builds capability in key areas of business intelligence, and planning and performance based on the reliable and robust data that UPP manages through ownership of the enterprise data warehouse, Information Hub and Data and Information Governance. 

UPP is a key strategic resource for senior management of the University providing management information, analysis, and insights that enable decision-making. UPP provides reports on behalf of the University to the Commonwealth Government and other statutory bodies.

The Senior Business Analyst plays a lead role within the Data Risk Management Project. The role is responsible for partnering with business and other IT teams within the University to provide specialist advice and guidance to ensure the sound and effective execution of UNSW’s Data Risk Management Project work. The focus of this role is to work closely with the Project’s stakeholders to gain in- depth understanding of business strategy, processes, services, roadmap, and documenting capabilities needed to address business challenges.

This position reports to the Data Risk Management Project Manager and has no direct reports.

Your skills and experience should include:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
  • At least 5 years of functional experience in Integration projects as a business analyst, functional consultant or business systems support role, in a large and complex organisation, ideally in higher education.
  • Proven experience in leading Business Analysis activities, particularly in complex projects involving data governance, privacy and data protection, and implementation of technological solutions.
  • Familiarity with pertinent laws and regulations such as PPIPA, HRIPA, Privacy Act, and State Records Act, providing an added advantage.
  • Proven track record in crafting effective Business Cases and performing effort estimation and cost analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience in procurement processes, including drafting requests for proposal (RFP) documents, conducting go-to-market activities, managing procurement activities, and facilitating product selection processes.
  • Possess a deep understanding of access control mechanisms, particularly in the context of data security and privacy. This includes knowledge of role-based access controls (RBAC) and how they are implemented within the organization's systems.
  • Familiarity with enterprise data governance platforms and tools is essential. The BA should understand the features and functionalities of such platforms and how they can address the organization's data governance needs, including data risk controls.
  • Proficiency in gathering and analyzing business requirements, defining use cases, and translating business needs into technical requirements for data integration solutions.
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience in a range of application development methodologies including ‘agile’, ‘waterfall’, ‘lean’ and ‘rapid’ application development methodologies.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
  • Well-developed skills in the use of standard office toolsets including word processors, spreadsheets, JIRA, Confluence, drawing/diagramming tools (eg Visio), presentation tools (eg PowerPoint) and project management tools (eg MS Project).
  • Sound consultation, influencing and negotiation skills and proven ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Comprehensive analytical and problem-solving skills and proven capacity to exercise initiative, flexibility and to be proactive in development of robust solutions to problems.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives, and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
