Why Your Role Matters:

The School Manager is accountable for the effective and efficient operational management of the School and for providing proactive leadership within the School. The role is responsible for business operations of the School, working with the Deputy Faculty Executive Director (DFED) to ensure financial management, human resources, physical resources, student support services are delivered, and WH&S requirements are met.

The position forms part of the Faculty Operations Management team, led by the Faculty Executive Director, and contributes to the development and implementation of Faculty-wide policy, procedures, and systems in line with University directions and requirements. The role of School Manager reports to Deputy Faculty Executive Director with a dotted reporting line to the Head of School for strategic input into School activity and Faculty planning


Responsibilities:

Specific responsibilities for this role include (but are not limited to):

  • Work with the DFED and HoS to advance, develop, evaluate and maintain teaching and research strategies that align with the Faculty’s mission, and provide management advice to the HoS on the full range of School activities, planning and performance
  • Provide operational leadership and advice in the day to day running of the School and provide leadership during times of change. This includes mentoring the administrative team and facilitating career development opportunities. 
  • With the HoS and DFED, plan, manage and allocate human, physical and financial resources to deliver School services in all functional areas e.g. teaching and learning (including life long learning), research and research training and administration
  • Manage and contribute to the development and review of the faculty’s strategic and operational business plans and reporting.
  • Consistent with Faculty and University strategy, policies and processes, regularly keep the DFED informed on a range of functional areas concerning: financial management, human resources, facilities and physical resources, records and information systems, communications and marketing, and student administration. Proactively seek a range of potential solutions when operational issues arise in these functional areas.
  • Work with appropriate business partners and managers across operational areas to ensure the effective management of the School including financial management, human resources, school facilities and space, marketing and student support, teaching and research, and any other areas as required.

Skills and experience required (but not limited to):

  • Relevant degree and substantial relevant management experience or equivalent competency gained through any other combination of education, training and experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated high level interpersonal skills
  • Strong consultation, influencing and negotiation skills and proven ability to interact effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders
  • Proven experience managing, supporting and developing staff
  • Demonstrated initiative and strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in financial management and proven ability to interpret financial data to provide high quality advice
