THE ROLE

The Technical Operations team within the Faculty of Science and Engineering is seeking a proactive and skilled Safety and Chemical Systems Coordinator to provide end to end support for the Faculty’s chemical and hazardous materials safety management processes and systems, and to provide practical support to deliver the Faculty safety strategy and operational plan.

Reporting to the Head of Technical Operations, you will drive the implementation and continuous improvement of the Faculty safety strategy through the development and coordination of processes and systems across the Faculty.

Through your close working relationship with Faculty stakeholders, the University’s central WHS team, and external suppliers, you will manage and maintain the Faculty’s use of the Jaggaer chemical lifecycle management system, and provide related advice, support, and training to end users. You will drive best practice and user education on the use of chemicals and across other hazardous activities in the teaching and research of the Faculty.

About you

You will have completed a degree in Chemistry, have worked in laboratories, and have extensive knowledge of related chemical use, safety, compliance, and regulatory requirements. You will have experience in developing and implementing processes and systems for continuous improvement. Your combination of chemistry expertise and an aptitude for understanding specialised software enables you to effectively support chemical management systems and their users.

You have a passion for all areas of laboratory health and safety with an ability to identify risks and hazards and establish systems to manage these. You are an excellent communicator with a proactive nature and are able to work with a broad range of stakeholders to successfully deliver results.

The Faculty of Science and Engineering offers both undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs across a diverse range of disciplines and is home to several world-class research centres and facilities. It is comprised of two research departments and four schools, each with a different scale and/or discipline-specific approach to administration, technical, and infrastructure support for research and teaching.

The Technical Operations team provide specialised technical support services to the teaching and research activities of the Faculty. The team covers a broad range of capabilities and expertise across laboratory, specialist facilities, and field-based activities that are essential for the smooth functioning of teaching and research within the Faculty.

Essential:

  • A degree in Chemistry or combination of relevant experience, education, and training;

  • Demonstrated experience working with hazardous materials in a laboratory environment;

  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing processes and systems in a complex environment;

  • Demonstrated knowledge of workplace health and safety legislation, principles and practices particularly as they apply to dangerous and hazardous materials;

  • Demonstrated success in building and maintaining relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders;

  • Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering training;

Desirable:

  • Extensive experience using the Jaggaer software platform for chemical lifecycle management.

Salary Package: Level 7 from $104,726 to $113,545 per annum, plus 17% employer’s superannuation and annual leave loading.
