About the position

Level A research only academic is expected to contribute towards the research effort of the institution and to develop their research expertise through the pursuit of defined projects relevant to the field of research. For candidates with a PhD, higher autonomy (limited supervision or more independent) and executive performance of duties, accountabilities, knowledge and capabilities is expected.

The John Richards Centre for Rural Ageing Research (JRC) was established in 2007 with funding from John Richards OAM, Department of Health and Human Services Victoria and La Trobe University. The JRC team consists of 27 staff and affiliates as well as 8 higher degree research students across all La Trobe campuses. The incumbent will provide research assistance to various projects led by the JRC team and JRC Chair/Director. In collaboration with external and other stakeholders, the JRC undertakes an interdisciplinary rural ageing and aged program of research in the following areas:

  • Aged Care and Dementia
  • Ageing in place
  • Health Service and Workforce
  • Technology

The JRC is part of La Trobe Rural Health School (LHRS) which is the largest rural health school in Australia. LRHS is based at all four regional campuses of the University: Bendigo, Mildura, Shepparton and Albury-Wodonga. The school has a wide range of health courses including dentistry, oral health, nursing, midwifery, paramedicine, public health, pharmacy, biomedical sciences (onshore and offshore), physiotherapy, social work, speech pathology, exercise physiology, exercise science and occupational therapy.

 GO ReViTALISE

GO ReViTALISE (Geriatric Oncology Regional Victoria Trials Alliance: Linkages, Innovation, Special Populations, Equity) is an interdisciplinary collaborative research initiative between the JRC and Border Medical Oncology and Haematology. GO ReViTALISE is funded under a Commonwealth Government MRFF grant. The initiative aims to conduct a program of clinical trials and health systems research investigating and implementing aspects of geriatric care to enhance the experience and outcomes of cancer care for older adults. The Research Officer, GO ReViTALISE position will be preferably based at La Trobe University, Albury-Wodonga campus, and will entail collaborative research within the GO ReViTALISE initiative members (JRC and Border Medical Oncology and Haematology). The position will report to the GO ReViTALISE senior research fellow, La Trobe University.

Skills and Experience

To be considered for this position, you will have

  • Completed at least a bachelor’s degree in the relevant discipline, and evidence of participation in higher level study relevant to discipline or professional area.
  • Experience in research, clinical trials and evaluation and the ability to work effectively under limited supervision or independently.
  • A demonstrable record of contribution to publications, conference papers and/or reports, or professional or technical contributions which provide evidence of research potential.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team in a cooperative and collegial manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with research platforms and software such as EndNote, NVivo, Covidence, REDCap, QuestionPro, SPSS, STATA, research ethics portal, trials registry.
  • Demonstrated expertise in research administration, evaluation and project management including literature review, ethics, creating databases, recruitment and data collection.
