Exciting opportunity for a Research Fellow to contribute to a research program focused on Digital Health, Public Health, Health Equity and Health Care
Full-time, 12-month fixed-term position in a flexible working environment, with potential for extension
Salary Range Level B: $118,390 – $140,586 + 17% superannuation
About the opportunity
Westmead Applied Research Centre (WARC) was established by the University of Sydney in collaboration with the Western Sydney Local Health District, to specifically address the causes of chronic disease, with a focus on translational research that addresses the specific needs and circumstances of vulnerable patients and communities. WARC’s aim is to create, evaluate and apply innovative clinical and digital health approaches to reduce the burden of cardiometabolic and other chronic conditions. WARC celebrates a research approach that thinks and acts flexibly, aims to do more with less, embraces technology in health care, sees co-design and partnership as necessities for translation and impact, and consistently views its activities through the lens of value and equity.
In this role, you will work under Dr. Clara Chow, a leading cardiologist and academic with numerous accolades, including the Telstra Brilliant Woman in Digital Health 2022. She holds a PhD from the University of Sydney and has led innovative projects recognised by the Google AI Impact Challenge. Dr. Chow is also the first female President of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand and co-chairs the Secondary Prevention Alliance in Australia.
The Research Fellow will assist in developing a digital health application for Clinical Trial participants to communicate with patients and allow clinicians to monitor cardiac devices. The aim of the application is to improve healthcare equity when physical appointments are not feasible. In this role, you will work closely with Professor Clara Chow and collaborate with team members on key project tasks.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
Apply and refine expertise in research methodologies
undertake original research (either independently or as part of a team) within discipline
contribute to and coordinate the research and administration activities of the discipline
write manuscripts and prepare grant funding applications
develop research collaborations that will ultimately result in knowledge or technology transfer leading to commercialisation, improved policy or practice and/or enhancements to industry
assist with future grant applications, design of protocols and supervision of PhD students
About you
PhD in Digital Health, Public Health, Health Equity, or other relevant fields
demonstrate expertise and experience in undertaking health services research
proven experience in data analysis, data interpretation, and protocol writing
have expertise in the design and conduct of qualitative research, including qualitative studies
demonstrate a track record of impactful research and publications in their field
an excellent mentor for junior scientists as evidenced by supervision, mentoring, and support
demonstrate a strong track record of effectively working in multi-disciplinary teams, industry and professional institutions, health partners, and stakeholders
ability to travel for presentations (funded by the University).
