  • Based at the Melbourne CBD campus, but may be required to work and/or be based at other campuses of the University 


 


About The Position 


 
The Research Fellow position within RMIT's Centre for Urban Research offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge interdisciplinary research. Working in a collaborative environment, the successful candidate will utilize transport models to investigate the behavioral, health, and environmental impacts of developing cycling infrastructure in urban and regional areas.

The role involves active participation in a multidisciplinary team, fostering collaborative relationships, and responsiveness to academic, government, and funding stakeholders. The Research Fellow will play a key role in advancing travel demand and transport simulation models, engaging in high-quality research projects in active and sustainable transport modeling, seeking research funding, and producing impactful outputs.

The position requires a demonstrated track record in research, supervision of higher-degree candidates, effective networking, excellent interpersonal skills, and proficiency in programming and spatial data analysis, preferably with experience in MATSim transport modeling toolkit. Strong consideration will be given to candidates with Java programming skills. 


 


To be successful in this position, you’ll have:  


 


  • Emerging track record and recognition for quality research outputs which will contribute to existing Discipline and School research areas evidenced by publications, development of new research initiatives, competitive research funding, and industry links. 

  • Demonstrated ability to supervise higher degree by research candidates. 

  • Ability to build effective networks with colleagues and generate alternative funding projects through effective liaison with industry and government. 

  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills appropriate for interacting with higher degree by research candidates, staff and industry, together with a strong commitment to teamwork and multidisciplinary collaboration. 

  • Demonstrated experience in using and developing city-scale transport demand models. 

  • Demonstrated experience in programming and spatial data analysis in R or Python programming languages and version controlling with Git. 

  • Demonstrated experience with MATSim transport modelling toolkit is strongly desired. 

  • Ability to program in Java or a willingness to learn this programming language is desired. 

  • Mandatory: PhD or equivalent in relevant field
