About the Role 
We are seeking a Research Fellow with an interest in the development of new catalysts for the manufacture of green chemicals to assist in conducting research for a Future Fellowship on “Advanced Synchrotron based Techniques for Green Chemical Manufacture” led by Associate Professor Rosalie Hocking.

In this position, you will contribute to world leading research in understanding catalyst materials through the preparation of research articles and reports, grants, beamtime proposals and review of beamtime proposals. Strong knowledge in any of the following areas would complement the FT proposal and would be highly regarded:

  • Electrochemistry
  • Analytical chemistry and spectroscopy
  • Computer programming/DFT calculations
  • Thermal spray fabrication

This role involves supervision of PhD Students and is expected to contribute to a culture of safety and good workplace practice in the laboratories at Swinburne University. 

This appointment can be made at Level A or Level B depending on experience. 

About You  
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:

  • A strong track record of research - relative to the opportunity (research in both academic and industrial settings will be considered).
  • Ability to supervise research students.
  • Knowledge of workplace OH&S requirements and ability to mentor others in maintaining a safe work environment with good laboratory practice.
  • Experience in the preparation of competitive grants. 
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, lead, execute and publish high impact papers over a sustained period since the conclusion of the PhD (essential for Level B)
  • Experience preparing and reviewing beamtime proposals or proposals for other external bodies such as the NCIS is preferred. 

Qualifications
  • A PhD or equivalent in chemistry, physics, chemical engineering, or mechanical engineering.
