About This Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for a Research Fellow/Senior Research Fellow (Level B or C) to work within the Children's Intensive Care Research Program (ChIRP) on leveraging large volumes of granular paediatric intensive care data to develop risk prediction models, and translate models into clinical practice. The successful applicant will ideally have a growing research profile in data science, machine learning, or digital signal processing (research experience or interest in child health/intensive care research desirable), and will be expected to efficiently manage service and engagement roles and activities alongside their research.

Dedicated to improving outcomes for critically ill children, ChIRP conducts multicentre, multinational studies, and prioritises local, national, and international collaborations. ChIRP currently receives funding from the National Health and Medical Research Council, Medical Research Futures Fund, Children's Hospital Foundation, Ramaciotti Foundation, and others. ChIRP is a multidisciplinary team with staff and students from varied fields, including data science, data management, nursing, dietetics, intensive care, medicine, psychology, and public health. ChIRP is making global impacts including building paediatric clinical trial capacity in India and Brazil, developing dynamic risk prediction models for early detection of patient deterioration, enhancing consent processes across the life-course for children within and after intensive care, and advancing paediatric precision medicine through digital clinical trials, culminating in changes to clinical practice.

This position is physically located at the Centre for Children's Health Research, co-located with the Queensland Children's Hospital, and will play a lead role in using machine learning to develop prediction models by combining datasets from multiple paediatric intensive care units, coupled with translation to practice. Additionally, this position will service research needs of other ChIRP-led projects.

This is a research focused position. Further information can be found by viewing UQ’s Criteria for Academic Performance .
