About the Role
Join the dynamic Department of Infectious Diseases at the renowned Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity as a Research Fellow, where you'll collaborate with leading experts such as Professor Sharon Lewin and Professor Joseph Trapani, based at the Peter Macallum Cancer Centre. This unique role involves pioneering CRISPR-Cas13 technology for antiviral therapeutics, focusing on delivery strategies including mRNA and lipid nanoparticles and evaluation in cutting-edge organoid models, while actively engaging in supervising PhD and/or Honours projects.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Contribute to the development of the laboratory’s research program aimed at treating RNA viruses with CRISPR-Cas13 and other related gene editing tools
- Develop protocols for making different formulations of mRNA-LNP using the NanoAssemblr and optimise efficient delivery of CRISPR-Cas13 mRNA into upper and lower respiratory airway cells and mouse models.
- Techniques will include but are not limited to: synthesis of lipid nanoparticles, molecular biology, RNA biology, cell culture, flow cytometry, virus isolation, virus infection, quantitative PCR based assays, microscopy
Who We Are Looking For
You excel in LNP design and formulation, demonstrating initiative, and novel problem-solving approaches. Your meticulous record-keeping, communication, and effective teamwork make you an ideal candidate.
You will also have:
- A PhD in nanomedicine, lipid nanoparticles formulations, pharmaceutical sciences, CRISPR therapeutics, or related field.
- Demonstrated experience with nanoparticle production and delivery of nucleic acid using nanoparticles
- Proficiency in basic molecular biology techniques, including cloning, site-directed mutagenesis, PCR, RT-PCR.
- Strong evidence of emerging academic standing through research contributions and possessing the ability and desire to build an academic career trajectory as demonstrated by prior awards, scholarships and/or involvement in research activities.
