About the opportunity
Established in 1988, the NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre (CTC) is a Flagship Centre within the faculty of Medicine and Health, and the premier centre for clinical trials of the University. It is a global leader in clinical trials, impacting future health practice and policy. The CTC is also a leader in research excellence, the methodology of trials, and the translation of research into clinical practice.
The is seeking a highly-motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to undertake research into the tuberculosis (TB) epidemiology and interventions to improve TB control in high and low-prevalence settings. This position will be based at the Medical Foundation Building in the University of Sydney. It will involve implementing collaborative studies in Australia and internationally, including Vietnam. It will also involve opportunities to supervise research students. Research areas will include:
- clinical trials relating to treatment and prevention of TB
- prevention of tuberculosis (including multidrug resistant-TB)
- active case-finding to identify people with TB in endemic settings
- antimicrobial resistance in resource-limited settings
- TB relapse and mortality
- early tuberculosis disease
Research methods will include: clinical trials, epidemiological studies, systematic reviews and meta-analysis, health economic analysis and implementation research.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- make a significant contribution to the research and administrative endeavors while building your reputation towards becoming an authority in the discipline
- have demonstrated excellence in research relevant to the discipline
- have an established network of relationships with key academic, consumer/advocacy, industry and/or professional institutions, partners and stakeholders that can be leveraged to enhance the standing of the discipline, School/ Faculty and University
- have an understanding of and ability to support an academic endeavour from curriculum design to producing leading research and providing a student enabling environment
About you
- have postgraduate medical qualifications in epidemiology, applied biostatistics, clinical trials methods or relevant field, ie Fellowship with the College of Physicians or equivalent
- have a developing research profile evidenced by original, high-quality and independent research in this field and / or related fields of practice
- hold experience working in South East Asia and
- experience working on clinical trial management projects in Vietnam, Cambodia and Australia
- hold knowledge of TB research and treatments
- ability to work with research collaboratives in an international cross cultural competency
- hold experience working with various stakeholders in clinical trials within other countries
- have a developing network of relationships with academic, consumer / advocacy, industry and / or professional organisations, partners and stakeholders
- have experience in supervising or mentoring others and/or coordinating team activities
- ability to travel to South East Asia 1-2 months a year
