Research Fellow in Evidence Synthesis

About the opportunity

The University of Sydney is seeking a Research Fellow in Evidence Synthesis to support the expanding Cities and Planetary Health transdisciplinary research portfolio in the School of Architecture, Design and Planning (ADP) led by Professor Thomas Astell-Burt.

The post holder will contribute to research on environmental factors and interventions for cardiometabolic health and/or mental health and related topic areas (e.g., loneliness) involving systematic reviews and random effects meta-analyses. In addition to contributing to these research areas, the post holder will be expected to lead studies, write publications as both lead and co-author, and apply for grants/fellowships that complement existing research strengths in the team.

The position will contribute to the development and delivery of teaching on undergraduate and/or postgraduate courses, microcredentials and systematic reviews and meta-analysis clinics to provide methodological support to researchers and PhD students. Experience in conducting systematic reviews and random effects meta-analyses is essential.

This post is full time and is expected to work at in the Camperdown Campus for most of the time to contribute to the growth of the team and the wider community in ADP.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• conduct and oversee the delivery of high quality research within the Cities and Planetary Health research portfolio led by Professor Thomas Astell-Burt
• lead systematic reviews and meta-analyses focused on environmental factors and interventions for cardiometabolic health and/or mental health and related topic areas with members of the team
• publish high impact research in excellent quality journals
• write research proposals and generate external research funding as lead investigator with members of the Cities and Planetary Health team, and as a contributor to projects led by other team members
• manage research projects including budgeting, convening meetings, preparing funder reports
• develop and deliver teaching on undergraduate and/or postgraduate courses and microcredentials on systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and other topics relevant to the Cities and Planetary Health team
• lead systematic reviews and meta-analysis clinics to provide methodological support to researchers and PhD students
• supervise and mentor higher degree research students and student-led projects
• engage stakeholders across all stages of the research process, including co-design activities and dissemination in various academic and non-academic formats

About you

• an established track record in the field of evidence synthesis (systematic reviews, meta-analysis) as demonstrated by meaningful contributions to a range of projects and publications as lead and co-author.
• PhD involving systematic reviews and meta-analysis, and other qualifications either in evidence synthesis or in degrees in which it is typically taught as a core subject (e.g., Master of Public Health)
• strong capacities to conduct systematic reviews and meta-analyses, as demonstrated by publication in excellent journals
• mastery of relevant software for systematic reviews (e.g., Covidence) and proven capability to conduct meta-analyses in relevant software packages (e.g., R)
• proven ability to design, implement, and evaluate teaching activities (including methods clinics)
• be enthusiastic about advancing evidence synthesis as applied to cities and planetary health research.
