About This Opportunity 

This is an exciting opportunity for a Research Fellow in Health Economics and Health Technology Assessment (HTA) to engage in research to further their expertise and growing research profile to achieve national recognition in their discipline. The candidate should have a strong background in quantitative microeconomics and/or economic evaluation. Knowledge and experience in clinical trial evaluation, literature review and economic modelling is a must. It is anticipated that the successful applicant will work with supervisors to secure additional income to ensure growth of the health economic program and to ensure longevity of the position. At this level it is expected that in incumbent will efficiently manage service and engagement roles and activities.

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Develop an independent and/or team research program to achieve national recognition and impact in the research area.

  • Specifically, participate as an evaluator in Health Technology and Assessment Group at the Centre for Health Services Research, including produce HTA reports, collaborate with other evaluators and other research staff to produce quality research and HTA reports, report to and work with Senior Evaluator(s) for quality assurance and quality improvement, contribute to capacity building and the development of training materials and programs in HTA

  • Produces quality research outputs consistent with discipline norms by publishing or exhibiting in national research journals, other appropriate refereed publications and conference publications, with a lead role in some outputs.

  • Participate in or contribute as chief investigator role (often in conjunction with more experienced researchers) in applications for competitive research funding to support projects and activities, which includes actively seeking, obtaining and managing research funding.

  • Work with colleagues in the development of joint research projects and applications for competitive

  •  Demonstrate a track record of the effective supervision of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students.

  • Demonstrates personal effectiveness in supervision and management and development of researcher capability and skill.

  • Shows leadership of self and others through mentoring, collaboration and active participation in priority activities for the unit

This is a full-time (100%), fixed-term position for up to 12 months. At Academic level B, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $106,079.67 - $125,687.99, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $124,113.21 - $147,054.95 annually. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases – at least once a year.

About You  

  • Post graduate qualification in a discipline related to health evidence appraisal, systematic review, or economic evaluation. This might include health-related or methods related disciplines (e.g. public health, economics, health services research, epidemiology, medicine, biostatistics).

  • Experience in conducting health technology assessment, especially for the Medical Services Advisory Committee (MSAC) or Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC) in Australia

  • A developing reputation and track record of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences.

  • Competent work/time management skills including the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines. Exceptional writing skills, with competence in technical writing style required for HTA reports

  • Evidence of successfully seeking, obtaining and managing external research funding.

  • A growing record of supervision of Honours and Research Higher Degree students to successful completion.

  • Experience in meaningful internal service roles in conjunction with active contributions to external activities. Strong interpersonal skills including ability to liaise confidently with stakeholders.
