About This Opportunity 

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Research Fellow, with expertise in the areas of social connections and wellbeing in older adults, to join our world-leading School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. Our School has a long tradition of high achievement in teaching and research in audiology, occupational therapy, physiotherapy and speech pathology. As one of Australia's leading health and rehabilitation educators, the School is recognised internationally for its teaching and research staff, alumni and quality of students. 

In this role, you will have the opportunity to engage in research to further your expertise and growing research profile to achieve national recognition in your discipline. At this level you will also be responsible for efficiently managing service and engagement roles and activities.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: 

Research: Develop a research program, collaborate on research projects, seek and manage research funding, produce quality research outputs, publish in reputable journals and utilise best practice research methodologies.

Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise students, lead and manage employees, resolve conflicts and provide performance feedback, coaching and training.

Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.

This is a full-time (or part time negotiable for the right candidate), fixed-term position through to 20 March 2025. There may be an opportunity to extend pending further funding renewal.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $108,201 - $128,201, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $126,595 - $149,996 annually. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases in line with the Enterprise Agreement.

About You  

  • Completion of a PhD in a relevant Health or Social Science discipline such as Audiology, Psychology or Speech Pathology.

  • A developing reputation and track record of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences.

  • Demonstrated high level interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to consult and negotiate with participants, members of the research team, and other stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met.

  • Evidence of successfully seeking, obtaining and managing external research funding.

  • Understanding of research processes, data management, data analysis and presentation of scientific findings.

  • Skills and experience with quantitative analysis, including Microsoft Excel to create data spreadsheets and statistical analysis using SPSS.

  • A growing record of supervision of Honours and Research Higher Degree students to successful completion.

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team.

  • Experience in meaningful internal service roles in conjunction with active contributions to external activities.

The following would be highly regarded:

  • Experience working with adults with hearing loss.

  • Experience with qualitative research methods.

  • Experience with collecting video recorded data.

In addition, the following mandatory requirements apply:

  • Mandatory Immunisations: It is a condition of employment for this role that you will be required to provide evidence of immunisation against certain vaccine preventable diseases.
