The Opportunity

  • Procure, install and support multi petabyte storage systems
  • Full-time role (35 hours week), fixed term contract to Dec 2025
  •  $138,171 - $146,613 + 17% super + leave loading

Research Technology Services are a key enabler for researchers. These services include Computing, Data Services and researcher support. Responsibility for these services in the University’s 2025 Strategy sits with the PVC Research Infrastructure as portfolio lead.

The Research Computing Support Engineer is a key role in providing system and user support within one or more aligned Research Computing services such as Storage and High Performance Computing. The position will directly provide advice how to optimise these platforms and how to include new technologies into these systems.

The role of Research Computing Support Engineer reports to Manager, ResTech and has no direct reports.

Who you are

You can demonstrate the following Skills and Experience:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
  • Supporting project-critical storage systems.
  • Experience with multi petabyte storage system.
  • Procurement of storage and computer systems.
  • Managing multiple stakeholders in the storage environment.
  • Working collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
  • Success working effectively and collaboratively on initiatives with a range of people at different levels within an organisation.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail for deliverables produced.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
