The Opportunity

As a Research Associate you will be working predominantly on an innovative research project in Wireless Communications Laboratory, which is funded by ARC DP, entitled “Intelligent Reflecting Surface (IRS)-enabled High-speed 6G Wireless Networks”. Working in a team your role will be to undertake research designing and developing efficient pragmatic transceiver designs, communication techniques, resource allocation algorithms, communication protocols and infrastructure to fulfil the emerging demand for IRS-enabled communication networks. This position will give you the opportunity to develop your research skills and output through your contribution to the writing of scientific papers and reports for international journals, participating in conferences and workshops and actively engaging with industry partners.

This role reports to Dr. Derrick Wing Kwan Ng with a dotted line to Prof. Jinhong Yuan and has no direct reports.

  • Salary, Level A - $106,337 to $113,737 per annum + 17% superannuation

Skills & Experience

  • PhD (or soon to be awarded) in Electrical or Electronics Engineering, with Telecommunications and Signal Processing background; excellent background also in optimization theory is preferable.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders and students.
  • Experience with software packages such as Matlab, C++.
  • We are especially interested in candidates who have expertise in the following research areas including, but not limited to:
    • Optimization for IRS and/or Integrated Sensing and Communications
    • Semantic/goal-oriented communications
    • Machine learning-based wireless communications
    • New waveforms and multiple access schemes, e.g., NOMA, OTFS
    • THz communications and/or near-field communications
    • Multiple antenna technologies for 6G, e.g., cell-free massive MIMO, etc.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Ability and capacity to implement required UNSW health and safety policies and procedures.
