Offer Description
- Work on a project that focuses on understanding the impacts of misinformation, including visual and AI-generated misinformation, on cognition and behaviour, and developing psychological interventions to reduce these impacts
- Level A, full-time appointment on a fixed-term basis for 24 months with a possibility of extension depending on funding and performance
- Base salary range: $103,202 p.a. plus 17% superannuation

About the team
The Ecker Memory & Cognition lab at UWA’s School of Psychological Science is directed by Professor Ullrich Ecker. Research in the EMC Lab focuses on human memory, reasoning, and the processing of misinformation.
The School of Psychological Science comprises over 40 staff who deliver a world-class research and education experience to approximately 5000 undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students. The School is also responsible for the research training of over 130 PhD students, many of whom have been awarded PhD scholarships. The School is research intensive with internationally recognized expertise in Human Factors, Industrial and Organisational Psychology, Perception, Cognition, Developmental Psychology, Social and Personality Psychology, Clinical Psychology, and Clinical Neuropsychology.
About the opportunity
As a Postdoctoral Research Associate, you will conduct collaborative experimental research exploring the impacts of misinformation and developing interventions to combat these impacts. You will engage with PhD and Honours students, as well as a network of local, national, and international collaborators. The project is funded by the Australian Research Council.
To be considered for this opportunity, you will have:
- PhD in cognitive psychology or related field
- Demonstrated commitment in participating in high-quality research evidenced by peer-reviewed journal articles published in respected scholarly journals
- Demonstrated support of ethical principles and open-science procedures
- Competence in using experimental/survey software (incl. Qualtrics), statistical tools (incl. R), and online testing platforms (e.g., Amazon Mechanical Turk / Prolific)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively, and to build effective and positive working relationships with diverse collaborators and stakeholders
- Knowledge of and experience with artificial intelligence systems, including large-language models
