- Fixed term appointment for 2 years on a full-time basis
- Base salary range: Level A Step 8: $103,202 plus 17% superannuation

About the team
The Department of Physics has an international reputation for excellence in research, as recognised by the hosting of three ARC Centre Nodes for Gravitational Wave Discovery, Quantum Engineered Systems, and Dark Matter Particle Physics. It also leads in research areas including quantum and frequency metrology, quantum gravity and field, quantum information and computation, spintronics and magnetisation dynamics, terahertz and optical technology, as well as bio- and medical physics.
About the opportunity
As the appointee you will, under limited direction, provide a high level of expertise in your research area. You will prepare and submit, (or will have recently submitted) an external competitive postdoctoral Fellowship application. You will conduct research on the agreed project in conjunction with your chosen mentor until the end of this this fellowship, or when the funds from a successful fellowship are received, whichever comes first.
The appointee will be expected to undertake research will be one, or a combination, of physics (including material science), astrophysics and biochemistry, and include projects that involve collaboration with the School of Molecular Sciences
To be considered for this opportunity, you will demonstrate:
- A PhD (or soon to be completed PhD)
- Demonstrated commitment in participating in high quality research evidenced by peer-reviewed journal articles published in respected scholarly journals and giving conference presentations.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare a fellowship application.
- Proven ability in independently formulating and pursuing research questions and conducting high-quality research.
- Demonstrated ability to relate well to staff and students at all levels and evidence of a commitment to equity and diversity principles
- Demonstrated ability to contribute positively to team and departmental meetings, strategic planning and program development
- The ability to supervise and train Honours, Masters and PhD students
