  • Fantastic opportunity for a casual part-time enthusiastic Research Assistant to support tertiary science education research at The University of Sydney

  • This role is commencing ASAP until December 2024 / 2 days per week (15 hours per week)

  • HEO 5 - Step 1 $57.08 per hour

  • A copy of your most recent publication in the field of science education (any sub-discipline is fine) must be submitted as part of your application.

About the opportunity

The successful incumbent will work closely with Dr. Stephen George-Williams, a chemistry education researcher in the School of Chemistry at The University of Sydney. The focus of this role is to backfill Stephen’s research responsibilities, meaning you will contribute to the chemistry educational literature through the generation of articles for publication, alongside undertaking large-scale, and mixed-methods, data analysis.

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • to prepare publications in the chemistry/science education field

  • to complete additional investigations, using both quantitative and qualitative methods, for subsequent dissemination.

You will have:

  • a PhD or MPhil degree in science education (this broadly includes chemistry education, physics education, biology education and/or other related tertiary science education fields)

  • experience conducting original research and/or engaging in scholarly activity in the field of science education (ideally at the tertiary level)

  • outstanding written communication skills

  • experience in qualitative analysis (namely through interviews or focus groups)

  • experience in quantitative analysis of student performance data is desirable.
