- Salary: $77,390 - $103,789 per annum (plus 17% superannuation)
About the Role
The Research Assistant will contribute to grant-funded research under direction of the Head: Vascular Biology and Cell Trafficking Laboratory to achieve defined objectives and test stated hypotheses on a project that involves cellular and molecular investigations into tumour vascularisation.
About The Centre for Cancer Biology
The Centre for Cancer Biology (CCB) is an alliance between the University of South Australia and CALHN and is co-located with other cancer-focussed researchers within a purpose-built building in Adelaide’s Biotech and Medical Precinct. The CCB studies the fundamental causes of cancer in order to find new ways to prevent and treat the disease and is a recognised hub for innovative science leading to breakthrough therapies.
Core Responsibilities
Under broad direction, you will be responsible for:
- Contributing to planning of research by participating in planning sessions, offering new ideas on research directions, reviewing relevant literature and attending seminars and meetings
- Assisting in the execution of research by actively participating in the production of data, designing experiments, maintaining daily comprehensive records of work performed and results of studies and assessing the requirements for laboratory consumables or other appropriate resources
- Disseminating new knowledge by drafting reports, abstracts, scientific papers and other instruments providing accounts of research undertaking and the findings observed
- Contributing to a safe and ethical working environment by complying with human ethics, animal ethics, privacy and other appropriate guidelines, and maintaining confidentiality of research proposals and research findings
Essential Skills and Experience
- An Honours degree in biology, or related discipline
- Experience with cell culture with human endothelial progenitor cells and cancer cells, in vivo mouse models of cancer (pancreatic and melanoma), gene and protein expression techniques and modulation of protein production in human and mouse cells
- Participation in relevant areas of research and knowledge of literature involved in, and laboratory procedures relevant to, the research project (particularly vascular biology and solid tumours in the skin and pancreas)
- Demonstrated competency in recording, analysing, presenting and disseminating research to stakeholders
- Extensive knowledge of animal ethics guidelines and applications, biosafety requirements and procedures and/or experience in the safe handling of potentially biological hazards
