Why this role matters:

A Research Assistant is required for the Centre for Healthy Brain Ageing (CHeBA) Biobank Laboratory. This position will assist with the curation, cataloguing, aliquoting and retrieval of fluid biosamples and other related procedures in the laboratory. The Research Assistant will also involve data collection, maintain meticulous records, transport samples as needed, and assist with general day-to-day tasks in the laboratory as well as use of software, as needed. Assistance in additional research, in particular protein structure and biology research and use of software such as AlphaFold, is also required.

The role reports to the Scientia Professor and has no direct reports. 

Skills Required:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
  • Experience of working in a laboratory with blood and other samples, and competence in basic laboratory skills.
  • Excellent time management, organisational and problem-solving skills, including the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to liaise effectively with all levels of staff and external stakeholders.
  • Highly proficient computer literacy with excellent skills in Microsoft Office applications and databases (e.g. CRM).
  • Proven organisational skills and the ability to operate autonomously while demonstrating strong initiative and a proactive approach to driving process improvement.
  • Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
