Our team of researchers lead key internationally competitive research from molecules to medicines, from patient to policy across a range of therapeutic areas.

We are seeking to appoint a Research Assistant in multi-analytical studies of a large clinical trial cohort. The successful candidate will work with the Cardiometabolic Medicine team on advanced mass spectrometry techniques and other analytical resources. You will be involved in the day-to-day preparation for biological samples and running of the analytical instruments including liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • assist with the design, development, and documentation of suitable research protocols for analytical studies
  • work with the team or independently to complete experiments within a laboratory setting
  • conduct careful and consistent biological sample extractions and preparations
  • excellent pipetting and observations skills to work on biological samples and attention to detail
  • study design of large batch metabolomics and lipidomics acquisitions, including sample randomisation, run order, pool sample control, and QC checks
  • keep daily records, collecting research data, entering it into appropriate statistical software, and preparing statistical analysis/reports as needed
  • oversee the daily operations of the research laboratory, providing technical support for affiliated researchers and postgraduate research students, teaching research methods to visiting scientist and research fellows
  • provide research administrative support for the work area
  • coordinating the development and submission of research publications for the work area
  • comply with the University standards of work health and safety at all times.

About you

  • relevant qualifications or combinations of training and experience - it will be highly regarded with previous analytical experience
  • highly organised and efficient and your excellent attention to details are essential
  • ability to work with delicate tissues and other biological samples and equipment, with proven ability and practical hands-on experience
  • accurate reporting, documentation and presentation of primary research
  • experience in carrying out scientific literary searches, and preparing literary reviews for further analysis-- experience in developing and working on research projects is desired
  • skills with basic data analysis, using statistical analysis tools, and reporting on research findings
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • ability to work well as a member or as part of a team.
