The Centre of Aboriginal Medical and Dental Health (CAMDH) located in the Medical School, was established in 1992 to promote the concept of holistic health care and cultural security in relation to Aboriginal health and health care practice, research and learning.

The Centre is in the Bilya Marlee building on the main UWA campus.

About the opportunity

As the appointee, you will be responsible for the overall management and coordination of all aspects of the MRFF Hearing Loss Research Project across Western Australia and in Darwin, Northern Territory. The Hearing Loss study will involve coordinating and supporting a team of chief investigators, the Hearing Loss research team, post graduate students, stakeholders, partner organisations, Indigenous stakeholders, and community organisations to investigate the barriers and enablers of access to hearing services for older Indigenous adults across the life course. This study will explore the lived experiences of older Indigenous adults with hearing loss and the impact that this has on their cognitive, mental, and psychosocial wellbeing and quality of life.

You will be under the broad direction of and work collaboratively with the Director of the Centre of Aboriginal Medical and Dental Health (CAMDH) as the Research Lead of the MRFF Hearing Loss Research Project in managing the financial and administrative management of the research project and programs.

 To be considered for this opportunity, you will demonstrate:

  • Relevant degree qualification, preferably at Masters, or PhD level or with equivalent research management experience. A postgraduate qualification is desirable.
  • Demonstrated health-related research experience, preferably community-based research at the coordinator level.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively liaise and work with Aboriginal community members, organisations, and other stakeholders in a culturally safe manner.
  • Highly developed planning and organisational skills, including with project and budget management.
  • Demonstrated written and interpersonal communication and high-level consultation skills, including experience in liaising with funding bodies (including philanthropic) to attract and write grants for research funding.
  • Experience in writing and publishing papers, media reports and communications.
  • Demonstrated experience in staff and / or post graduate student supervision.
