  • Remuneration: Level 9 $138,171 - $146,613 (depending on experience) + 17% super + leave loading

Why your role matters:

The Project Manager oversees the end-to-end delivery of capital construction projects, encompassing various construction and infrastructure works. Strong expertise in building services projects is essential for this role. 

The Project Manager plays a lead and strategic role within Estate Management, ensuring that all projects adhere to an approved brief, budget, and schedule, aligning with UNSW and Estate Management (EM) strategic goals and objectives. They are responsible for comprehensive project reporting and managing all stakeholder engagement.

The Project Manager reports to the Portfolio Delivery Manager and has no direct reports.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive project briefs across the planning, design, tender, and construction phases to ensure projects are delivered according to the agreed-upon brief.
  • Identify and articulate projects to enable the assembly of multi-disciplinary consultant teams and manage project funding and reporting.
  • Manage the planning, documentation, tender, construction, and defect liability phases of projects, including overseeing multiple projects with substantial budgets to ensure they are delivered on time and within budget in accordance with the approved brief.
  • Demonstrate strategic leadership, ensuring appropriate consultation and buy-in throughout project planning, documentation, and construction phases. 
  • Contribute strategically as a core member of the Estate Improvement team and assist in developing project-related strategic business cases. 
  • Provide detailed, accurate, and consistent project and financial reports to support the Portfolio Delivery Manager and senior management within Estate Management in achieving objectives.
  • Ensure that project issues are identified and resolved promptly and that agreed actions and desired outcomes are communicated appropriately.

Skills and Experience

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Construction, Project Management or related discipline or equivalent demonstrated experience in managing projects in complex, diverse operational environments.
  • Strong technical skills related to building services and infrastructure led projects.  Experience in electrical, mechanical, and complex building upgrade work related to education, research and health is preferred.
  • Significant knowledge and experience with complex planning and project management work with strict time/budget constraints. Including developing financial plans, budget allocations and forecasting, particularly within a complex major institutional environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in contract administration, with the ability to form concise judgments concerning contract variations, time claims, contractor performance and project risk management.
  • Outstanding organisational skills and demonstrated ability to define and manage project timelines, actions and critical paths to keep projects moving forward productively and efficiently.
  • High level of communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills and the capacity to exercise initiative in respect of project management issues and team management.
  • Effective leadership capabilities in a team environment and a demonstrated capacity to establish and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Computer Aided Design skills are desirable.
