The Opportunity

The ARC Centre of Excellence for the Weather of the 21st Century (21st Century Weather for short) is a Federally-funded consortium of 24 partners, led by Monash University in strong collaboration with the University of Melbourne, the University of New South Wales, the Australian National University, and the University of Tasmania. This Centre aims to determine how Australia’s weather is being reshaped by climate change. The Centre aspires to provide Australia with the knowledge, technology, and human capital for robust evidence-based decision-making in response to future weather changes in our region and to harness weather as a resource. The Centre offers a stimulating and supportive environment where researchers, students and professional and technical staff can network, thrive and grow their careers.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Professor / Associate Professor to join the School of Earth Atmosphere and Environment on a continuing basis, with the first 5 years dedicated to the ARC Centre of Excellence.

The key function of this position is to conduct and lead world-leading research in weather system dynamics in support of the missions of 21st Century Weather and the School of Earth, Atmosphere, and Environment outlined above. In doing so the position will contribute to the training of students and early career researchers. The position will also contribute to the teaching programs of the School at undergraduate and graduate level.

To be successful in this role, you will have a doctoral qualification and be recognised as a leading authority in weather systems dynamics. You will have a proven track record in fostering successful collaborative research both within atmospheric science and in interdisciplinary research endeavours. You will also have demonstrated experience in forging relationships with industry, business and government agencies coupled with vision for the future needs and development of atmospheric science and its applications in weather and climate research within Australia and internationally. In addition, previous teaching experience at tertiary level is not required, but would be advantageous.
