About This Opportunity
The Principal Research Coordinator facilitates the dissemination of information and advice to researchers on sources of research support, both external and internal. This includes monitoring and advising on matters related to the ethical conduct of research and review of ethics protocol submissions. This position is also responsible for assisting researchers with pre-award grants matters and tracking of internal and external research matters.
This role reports to the Deputy Director Research and manages a Coordinator, Research Ethics.
Responsibilities
Research Grant Administration
Act as a senior subject matter expert and source of high-level advice on all aspects of research grant administration, as relevant to the specific role, including:
Liaise with relevant UQ units including the UQ research office concerning research grant management
Be the primary point of contact for all research grant administration matters in the Institute
Provide advice on research grant administration, as relevant to the specific role, including pre-award (checklists for review of eligibility and compliance, budget preparation and assistance in submission of applications by internal and external deadlines, generation of Postdoc MOU)
Liaise with QBI executive with regards to Head of Institute support, financial support, internal grants and certification form sign-off
Track pre- and post-award activities in the Grants database
Compile data on submissions and successful grant rounds
Research Ethics Support
Be familiar with the research profile of QBI and be the primary point of contact for all research human and animal ethics administration matters in the Institute
Liaise with relevant UQ units including the UQ office of Research Ethics concerning research ethics management, and provide research related advice and support as required to Institute professional and academic staff
Coordinate QBI’s internal and external research ethics application processes, including interpreting guidelines, providing in-depth, critical and bespoke advice to QBI researchers on animal and human ethics requirements, as well tracking submissions (applications and reporting) ensuring all documentation is provided with the submission and filed
Use UQ best practice to conduct preliminary reviews of ethics applications, including project outline/protocols and amendment requests to previously approved applications to ensure compliance with relevant ethical guidelines for QBI researchers before final submission to the central Office of Research Ethics for approval
Advise QBI researchers and Laboratory Managers about policies relevant to animal welfare and human research ethics and provide a high level of support in grant applications
Collaboration
Establish strong and effective networks across UQ to develop consistent approaches to research and ethics administration
Other duties as reasonably requested by the supervisor
This role requires Supervisor Capabilities from UQ's Leadership Framework.
This is a Full-time, 100% FTE Continuing (permanent) position at HEW Level 7.
At HEW level 7, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $96,649.64 - $105,244.58, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $113,080.08 - $123,136.15 annually. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases – at least once a year.
About You
Completion of a degree with at least four years subsequent relevant experience; OR an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
High level of computer proficiency and practical understanding of administrative computer applications, especially with data on mainframe corporate systems.
Proficiency at an advanced level using computer software packages for word-processing, data storage and retrieval, and spreadsheets
Detailed knowledge of higher education policies and procedures in relation to research administration, or demonstrated capacity to gain this knowledge
Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
Demonstrated experience in the development of strong external and internal relationships
Demonstrated ability to generate and write briefings, strategic reports, and/or policy papers with a high attention to detail, either in conjunction with other senior staff members or independently
Demonstrated and well-advanced experience in research administration or research management
Integrity, diplomacy and sensitivity in communicating with a wide range of client groups
Ability to work cooperatively and constructively with staff from within a variety of settings from within the University and external to the University
Excellent abilities as a team player
